We, the undersigned, hereby associate ourselves together for the purpose of becoming an auxiliary of TBI.

Article I. Name

The name of the auxiliary shall be "Chai".

Article II. Objectives

The objectives of this auxiliary are twofold:

  1. To provide a means for young minded Jewish people to meet and socialize.
  2. To keep alive the spirit of our Jewish tradition and heritage for ourselves, our families, and the Temple.

Article III. Membership To top

Membership shall be open to any person, married or single, who is a member of TBI, who complies with the stated objective/By-Laws, and who pays the membership dues.

Membership shall also be open to any person, married or single, who is not a member of TBI, for one year from the date of application. These members may not hold any Board positions or be an officer.

Article IV. Board of Directors

The auxiliary shall be managed by a Board of Directors composed of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Chairperson, Publicity Chairperson, Programming Chairperson, Nominations Chairperson, and immediate Past President.

Such members to the Board of Directors and Officers shall be elected by the membership at large, and serve for terms of one (1) year each, with a maximum of two years in a particular office. Husband and wife may not both be on the board during the same year.

A checking account shall be established in the name of the auxiliary which will require the signature of the President or the Treasurer.

The treasurer shall make reports of receipts, disbursements, of the auxiliary at the monthly business meetings.

Article V. By-Law AlterationsTo top

A quorum, consisting of 2/3 of the members, must be present in order to vote on the By-Laws of the auxiliary, including any additions, alterations, and rescinded points.

1. Meetings

The monthly business of the auxiliary shall be held once a month, time and location is open.

2. Dues

Dues shall be paid annually.

The auxiliary shall adopt the same fiscal calendar as the Temple and renew dues each May.

3. Membership RequirementsTo top

  • Jewish person.
  • Member of TBI.
  • Non-member of TBI may be a member of the auxiliary for one calendar year.
  • Payment of membership dues.
  • Compliance with stated By-Laws.

4. Socials

Monthly functions shall be planned. Notice of such functions shall be advertised via a flyer, Temple Bulletin, telephone, Bimah announcement, and/or other means.

5. Board of Directors

Board of Directors shall be elected each March social function and will serve for a term of one (1) year with a maximum of two (2) years in a particular office, other than the office of treasurer which will have a term of two (2) years with a maximum of four (4) years. Any vacancies occurring in the Board of Directors shall be filled for the unexpired term by a vote of the majority of the remaining Directors.

All members of the Board of Directors shall be entitled to one (1) vote. All members of the Board of Directors shall attend Board meetings and shall support the auxiliary functions..

No more than one office can be held per person during any fiscal year.

Article VI. Officers and Their Duties To top

President -- The President of the auxiliary shall preside at all meetings of the Board of Directors and perform such other duties as ordinarily pertain to that office. The President of the auxiliary shall sit on the Temple Board of Directors.

Vice President -- The Vice President shall remain cognizant of all activities, shall act for the President in his/her absence, and in case of resignation or inability (due to health, moving, etc.) of the President, he/she shall assume all the duties of the President, until the vacancy is filled by the Board. The Vice President shall work with each Committee.

Secretary -- The Secretary shall keep full and accurate minutes of each meeting of the Board, to preserve all such records and to perform such duties as are usually incident to the office as (1) send notice of Board meetings (2) send social correspondence as deemed by the Board.

Treasurer - The first treasurer shall open a checking account in the name of the auxiliary, deposit all monies of the auxiliary which come into his/her hands, and shall make disbursements using checks; keep accurate records of all transactions, and generally perform all other duties pertaining to his/her office or which may be required to submit a "Profit & Loss" statement to the Board of Directors at the end of each fiscal year.

Membership Chairperson -- The Membership Chairperson shall maintain an up-to-date list of all members' names, addresses, telephone numbers, Temple affiliation, and shall actively promote membership of people meeting the qualifications set forth herein. This chairman shall also select on a rotation basis a member to represent the auxiliary for Friday evening services.

Publicity Chairperson - The Publicity Chairperson shall assure that auxiliary activities are communicated to the membership and Temple-at-large, via articles in the Temple Bulletin, Bimah announcements, and flyers. The Publicity Chairperson shall also enlist help for a telephone committee.

Programming Chairperson -- The Programming Chairperson shall plan and execute functions that are acceptable to the Auxiliary Board of Directors and to the Temple. This chairperson shall have a committee to execute these plans properly and send out flyers for each function.

Nominating Chairperson -- This chairperson shall preside over the Nominations committee. The Nominations committee shall prepare a slate in February to be presented at the March meeting. See VIII.

VII. CommitteesTo top

The Board of Directors may appoint additional committees as necessary to maintain and advance the auxiliary. Committee chairpersons do not have a vote, but are encouraged to attend Board meetings.

VIII. Nominations

The Nominations Committee shall consist of one (1) chairperson, one (1) Board Member and (1) member-at-large, and shall submit nominations for all the Board of Directors positions first to the current Board of Directors and then to the members of the auxiliary together with the notice of the annual nominations meeting of the auxiliary. At which time any member may propose additional nominations for Board of Directors prior to the election thereof at the annual nominations meeting. The parties receiving a majority vote of those present and voting at the meeting shall be deemed elected.
