How wonderful that we have the Kent Center Jewish Center right
nearby sponsoring so many events that we can support and enjoy
with our B'nai Chai friends -- and meet new friends, too, who
are part of the Kent Center community. The events listed on
this page, of course, are sponsored by the Kent Center and not
by B'nai Chai. But we can make Kent events part of our own B'nai
Chai social calendar, giving us additional chances to meet with
our B'nai Chai family while, at the same time, supporting the
Kent Center.
Here is the information about Kent Center events in September
that I think B'nai Chai members will find of special interest.
The information is quoted from page 16 of the Jewish Press of
Pinellas County, August 11-12 issue. The Kent Center is located
at 1955 Virginia Street, Clearwater. For more information call
the Kent Center 727-736-1494. Need a map
to help you locate the Center?
- Sunday, Sept 17 at 7 PM. Desserts and more. The
first Freilich group event of the season. Klezmer musician
Mike Eisenstadt will perform. Desserts will be served. $7
for members, $8 for non-members.
- Thursday, Sept 21 at 7 PM. American Jewish lit talk:
Renowned Jewish poets of the 20th century and the fabric
of American Jewish life will be the basis of a discussion
led by Dr. Steven Rubin, professor and chair of the English
Department at the University of South Florida. The program,
sponsored by the Florida Humanities Council, is free and
open to the public. After Dr. Rubin's talk, our B'nai
Chai group will meet for coffee at Perkins.
You may wish to call the Kent Center (736-1494) a few days
before each scheduled event to make sure that the event has
not been canceled or rescheduled.
If you decide to attend either or both events, could you e-mail
me at richard@gordonrichard.com
to let me know so that I can keep a list of B'nai Chai members
participating. If I get a good response, I'll be sure to continue
adding Kent Center events to the B'nai Chai social-activities
calendar. I suggest, too, that if you do attend, you let Kent
Center know that you have learned of this event through this
Web site and are attending as a member of B'nai Chai. I'd like
to have the Kent Center folks know how our B'nai Chai group
is supporting their events. RG
