Once we have a secretary elected
after our new constitution is approved, excerpts from the secretary's
minutes can be posted here for all to share. For now, I'll just
repeat my summary of our July 10th meeting from our website's
Home page.
July 10, 2000 at the Temple's
APR room
About thirty people attended Chai's
reorganization meeting on July 10. A new group was formed called
B'nai Chai. Twenty six people signed up for membership in the
new group.
For three months, B'nai Chai will
be going through a transitional period during which time I will
keep activities and communications going by updating the website
and through e-mail messages. Six volunteers took on the crucial
job of coming up with a new constitution. Richard Gordon, who
led the meeting, asked the committee to come up with a recommendation
on what to do with the funds remaining in the Chai treasury.
At the end of three months -- or
earlier if the committee is ready -- the committee will present
the results of their work to the members of B'nai Chai, and suggest
what to do next (vote on their constitution, elect officers --
whatever they decide).
During the three month transitional
period, whoever signs up to be a member of B'nai Chai is considered
a member. During this transitional period, there will be no dues.
It will be up to the committee to spell out membership requirements
as part of their work on the constitution.
The Rabbi clarified the ushering
question. Although he certainly would like to see B'nai Chai members
serve as ushers, he said that ushering should not be a membership
requirement.
The committee members are Jerry J.,
Larry G., Joe K., Ira B., Phyllis
R. and Diane S. (Why last
initial?)
