Suggestions from visitors to this website and from those in newsgroups devoted to helping the blind

From Bruce Atchison [The links are mine. RG]

Hi Richard;

I checked out your site and I can't think of much you could add. Perhaps John could do book signings locally. The shops take 40% or 45% but it is good public exposure.

John should get a PayPal account and add his book URL in his e-mail signature file.[Bruce on his musician's site offers a variety of ways to make payment on the Internet.RG] Posting on blindness lists and those dealing with his town or state would also be a good way to generate business. I had quite a few sales by going on newsgroups and e-mail lists related to rabbits.

I also sold 3 copies at a local crafts fair here in Radway. The table only cost $10 so I easily made back my money plus paid for the printing of those 3 copies.

John should also write up press releases about his book launch and tie his story into events or places mentioned in the book. I had 3 interviews from papers regarding my book because I warned parents about buying bunnies on a whim at Easter. Hits on my page went up dramatically as a result.

I hope this was helpful. When you don't have much money to start with, it's good to use as many cheap or free advantages as possible.

I'm almost blind ...

Sincerely,
Bruce Atchison - author of When a Man Loves a Rabbit (Learning and Living With Bunnies).

Purchased Bruce's book

I purchased Bruce's book When a Man Loves a Rabbit. Bruce enclosed with his book two items that help promote his book -- and could also help promote John's book.

  1. Three ballpoint pens that have printed on them the name of his book as well as they website address where they can be purchased.
  2. A book marker with information about his book printed on it, again with his website address.

I noticed that on the back cover of Bruce's book has an ISBN code and number. Right now I'm trying to determine how to get an ISBN code for John's book. This site makes me think that an individual author cannot get his own ISBN number.

Bruce's comments have been very helpful, and I look forward to reading his book, starting tomorrow. 5/20/07
