- City
of St. Catherines, Canada has a long established Clean City Committee.
- Concord,
California offers eleven specific steps that residents can take
to eliminate litter. Even translates the steps into Spanish.
- Delray
Beach, Florida describes its litter prevention initiative. Especially
interesting is its adopt a street program. I've noticed that sometimes
the first link given here doesn't always work. Then try going to the site's home
page: Type in the word "litter" in the Google search box
at the top right hand side of the home page as shown below.
Viewing Delray's anti-litter plan will
be worth the extra effort even though a website glitch
makes it difficult to link directly to the anti-litter program.
- Hamilton,
Ontario, Canada has an excellent website detailing the city's anti-littering
program.. "The
City has established an Anti-Litter Campaign that would like to see the
residents of Hamilton take back their communities and adopt specific
areas of the city to clean-up.
- Inglewood,
California recognizes the importance of developing city pride. "People
who feel the highest personal obligation to not litter are also people
who
feel a strong sense of PRIDE in their communities.
- Jackson,
Tennessee offers "Any person who reports information to a law
enforcement officer that leads to the apprehension and conviction of a
person for littering
shall receive a reward of $100." Offers seven
ways to prevent litter.

Cigarette
butts are a major litter problem. Fewer butts would result if
store owners placed butt containers near their door fronts. One restaurant
by my home has empty coffee cups by their entranceway.
- Louisville,
Kentucky anti-littering program has even enlisted car dealers
to put litter bags in all serviced cars. Lists specific things residents
can do to cut back on litter.
- New York
City STOMP OUT LITTER anti-litter public awareness campaign started
by Mayor Bloomberg. The mayor reports, "New York City is the cleanest
it's been in more than three decades.
- Oakland,
California won a grant for helping to clean up the city. Perhaps
your town or city can apply for such funds. "No
Dumping" signs,
and sting operations are financed by a $500,000 state grant," reports
an article in the Oakland Tribune in 2003.
- Revere
Beach, Massachusetts has a beautification committee. The Revere
website has a photo of its beautification committee volunteers.
