Resources for "Man's Search for Meaning," by Viktor Frankl

For the Thursday, September 22, 2005 class, I volunteered to report on Viktor Frankl's book Man's Search for Meaning. This page gives the students in my classes easy access to Internet sources related to Viktor Frankl. For the specific notes I will use in giving my oral report, see My Notes.

  1. Dictionary definition and pronunciation of logotherapy.
  2. A paragrah long explanation of logothrapy from an on-line encyclopedia.
  3. To see photos of Viktor Frankl, just click on the links. First photo | Second photo
  4. Interested in purchasing the book? Try Amazon.Com where you can find used copies for under $5. You can even read selections from the book on Amazon.
  5. Dr. C. George Boeree of Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania wrote an excellent article about Frankl, including biography, several especially meaningful quotes from the book, and an explanation of Frankl's logotherapy, a psychological theory and treatment modality. Frankl believed logotherapy could help cure mental illnesses by leading the patients in their search for their own personal, individual meaning for existence.
  6. Genrich L. Krasko, on the staff of MIT, wrote a lengthy article about Frankl whom Krasko calls "The Prophet of Meaning." Krasko goes into Frankl's early training and his association with Freud. When I pasted Professor Krasko's article into Word, I found that it runs twenty-nine pages. These twenty-nine pages are packed with specifics about Frankl's theory of logotherapy and how it put him at odds with both Freud and Adler.
  7. The results of a Google search for only edu (college or university) websites relating to Viktor Frankl and logotherapy. According to Google, all these sites have been updated in the last six months, and they are all in English.
  8. The official website in English of the Viktor Frankl Institute in Vienna, Austria.
