Exercise 6 related to Lesson 4 -- Deleting Favorites

  1. Go to any ten sites on the Suggested Web Site List. You will find the list categories here: http://www.gordonrichard.com/curric/categor.htm
  2. Make ten sites Favorites.
  3. Write the titles of each of these Favorites.
  4. Now delete all these Favorites.
  5. Write an explanation on how you deleted these Favorites. Be prepared to hand in your paper with your ten titles and deletion-explanation to your instructor.

Exercise 7 related to Lesson 5 -- Creating and organizing Favorites

  1. Go to the suggested Website list at http://www.gordonrichard.com/curric/categor.htm.
  2. Pick a category on the Website list page that has links to at list six sites.
  3. Go to these six Web sites, making each a Favorite.
  4. Then using your browser, create a category Favorite folder within which all five of your Favorites could be included.
  5. Move the individual Favorites into the Favorites category folder. In the screen-save below, art and children are both Favorites category folders. With the children folder selected, you can see six individual Favorites all related to the Favorites category folder children.
  6. Click on your Favorites on your Explorer toolbar, and move your mouse pointer slowly down to the category folder you just created so that it reveals you five Individual Favorites.

  7. Next, use your keyboard's Print Scrn (Screen) key to capture the image of your Favorites showing your Favorites category folder and its individual Favorites. The image you capture with the Print Screen key should be similar to image above.
  8. Now switch to a word-processing program like Word (or WordPad which may be substituted for Word throughout the rest of this exercise).
  9. Type your name at the top of the Word document window.
  10. Click on Edit/Paste. You should now see the Favorites screen-capture in your Word window.
  11. Save your Word document to your diskette or a harddrive folder designated by your instructor. Give the file the name favfolder.
  12. Print your favfolder.doc document and submit it to your instructor.

Exercise 8 related to Lesson 6 -- Search Sites

Using an Internet tutorial to learn about search engines

Here are tutorial sites for learning how to use search engines to help you find information on just about anything on the Internet.

You job

Spend at least a half hour doing the following:

  1. Make a list of at least ten new things you learned about using a search engine from one or more of these tutorials.
  2. At the end of your list, write a few sentences telling how effective the tutorial was in doing its job -- to make you more expert in using search engines.
