Exercise 9 related to Lesson 6 -- Using search engines to answer given questions

Use at least three different search sites to do this exercise. Find the answsers to any ten of the forty research questions. Give your answers to your instructor. Each answer must include --

  1. The search site used.
  2. The question researched -- not just the number of the question but the entire question copied over.
  3. The Web site URL where the answer was found.
  4. The answer to the question.
  5. How much time it took you to find the answer.

You may use a wordprocessing program for your work or write it out by hand. If you have extra time, you may answer more than ten questions for extra credit at the discretion of your instructor.

  15. What are the name, address, and phone number of a hotel or motel in Umtata, South Africa?
  16. Name two possible side effects of Prozac -- or any other medication?
  17. How much money did Mike Tyson earn in one of his championship fights?
  18. How can you tell the difference between real gold and fools gold?
  19. What is President Bush's e-mail address?
  20. Where can you purchase a hearing aid in Cairo, Egypt?
  21. What veterinarian has an office in Hartford, Connecticut?

  33. What are the e-mail addresses of two of your political leaders?
  34. Where and when does a support group meet for people suffering from agoraphobia?
  35. Who was the highest paid athlete in the year 2000 and how much did he or she make?
  36. What is one medication used for the treatment of asthma?
  37. How much money did the movie Jaws make?
  38. Where can you purchase durian?
  39. What is a possible phone number of a long lost friend or relative?
  40. What are three tourist attractions in Egypt?

Exercise 10 related to Lesson 6 -- Using search sites to answer your own questions

  1. Write down the name of a subject that you are interested in. Perhaps it could be the subject of a paper you are doing for one of your classes.
  2. Then write down at least ten questions relating to that subject. Don't have any more than three What questions. Try How and Why questions. Leave plenty of room after each question for inserting the information called for in the next steps.
  3. Using at least three different search engines, find the answers to your ten questions.
  4. After each question, insert (a) the name of the search site that helped you find the answer, (b) the URL, and (c) the answer.
  5. At the discretion of your instructor, you may receive extra credit by following the above steps for more than ten questions, or you can answer questions on another topic of your choice.
