September welcomes a new season
Welcome to the new "business year" about to begin for each
of our 15 Units spread across our adopted state of Florida. This
web site will feature the hi lights of our New York State United
Teacher retiree activities occurring in the various locations. If
you are a retiree from any New York State public school district
or AFT district from anywhere in the nation, we have opened our
doors to you and any guests you may wish to bring to a meeting.
Why join us?
What do we have to offer? Camaraderie, for a starter. Sharing stories
from the teaching days, for another. But, more importantly, we will
attempt to provide you with both a connection to the profession
you served and a chance to become involved in one of the many worthy
causes our Units undertake. We have Units directly supporting youth
related programs, teacher aid activities, and so much more. Do you
have membership obligations? Yes, it does involve you making a small
commitment to sustain the Unit you choose to join as well as Council
43, our designated name for the only NYSUT Chapter existing outside
New York State. Must your membership involve actively supporting
the Unit's activities? Not if you wish only to be a member and,
when available, attend the program offered (usually one per month).
Try us
May you "try out" attending a program to determine if
this group meets your needs? Of course, we encourage that effort
to assure you of the merits of eventual membership. Some of our
Units have chosen to have meetings at area restaurants with speakers
selected to provide input on matters deemed appropriate for seniors
in that area. Others have selected various places and themes for
their gatherings.
Can you choose to go to a different Unit function after first "checking
out" one closer to your home? You are welcome to attend any
gathering in any part of the state. Also, during certain years NYSUT
will bring special programs involving information deemed valuable
to retirees in the form of "Cluster Meetings" wherein
two or more Units will invite their members to travel to a location
best available to accommodate more than one hundred possible attendees.
How do you become aware of our events? With the help of NYSUT we
try to mail our own publication, ODDS 'n' ENDS, to each of you containing
a very brief summary of activities for each of the 15 Units. This
publication will provide you with a means to contact and make a
reservation for the gathering. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED to allow
planning for the numbers and the amenities needed for the group.
This web site also provides a means for making your reservations.
Now, the decision is yours!
