Message from Floyd Cameron

Greetings. My name is Floyd Cameron, the new [NYSUT] Retiree Services Manager. As some of you may know, I am taking over the job responsibilities for Patrick Longo who is retiring on June 15th.

NYSUT has just received the following request from AFT regarding an upcoming summer program. Please read and reply to the AFT if you are interested in participating in their summer 2007 New Orleans program. As some of you may know, the problems of the New Orleans' education system are great. We need you, any of your friends, family and associates to get involved. In addition, feel free to forward this E-mail to folks you think may want to help. AFT's Message: Lend a Hand in New Orleans

Most of us cannot imagine the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Still many more of us may not realize that Katrina left behind massive, unprecedented and enduring needs that even today-two years later-are still unmet in New Orleans.

The needs of people whose livelihoods were washed away are hard to imagine, but are very real for many working families in New Orleans. This summer, the American Federation of Teachers and volunteers from across the country will converge on New Orleans in an effort to lend a hand.

In cooperation with the AFL-CIO, the AFT-United Teachers of New Orleans, and other groups, volunteers will work on a variety of community and union-building efforts. If you are interested in participating, please [print out and then] fill out the information below and mail or fax it to:
